Data

The Open Access Monitor of the University of Zurich is based on the data of the Zurich Open Access Repository ZORA.

The metadata for publications entered manually in ZORA or imported via CrossRef, Pubmed or ORCID are enriched with data from various databases. The following are relevant for the monitor:

• CrossRef
• Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)
• Scopus
• Sherpa/RoMEO
• Unpaywall
• Web of Science (WoS)

Elasticsearch, a search engine, was used to build the indexes on which the monitor is based. The software, written in Java, stores documents in a NoSQL format. The data is visualised using Kibana. This browser-based open-source analysis platform is built on Elasticsearch. It enables the search and visualisation of data contained in Elasticsearch indexes.
